As the primary gateway to Northern Ireland, a key hub for trade and the 9th largest port in the UK, Belfast Harbour handles more than 70% of the region’s imported and exported goods transported by sea. Since 2019, the delivery of an ambitious five year, £254m investment programme has supported regional economic growth, and enabled the visible and celebrated transformation of Belfast Harbour.

While we are first and foremost a port, Belfast Harbour is increasingly recognised as a hub for thriving and innovative industries in Northern Ireland, including engineering, commercial and residential real estate, maritime technology, and the renewable energy sector. As we continue to develop and build a Port for Everyone, with innovation and partnership at the centre of our business model,we recognise that we can achieve more through collaboration supported by our membership of the Northern Ireland Maritime & Offshore Network (NIMO) .

Innovative organisations such as Artemis Technologies and Harland & Wolff (H&W) are not only among the businesses that call Belfast Harbour home… they are our valued partners, with whom we’re working hard to progress our collective ambitions.

Projects

Belfast Harbour’s expertise in offshore renewables has accelerated, since we delivered our largest port construction project to date in 2012; D1 Offshore Wind Terminal was the first facility of its kind in the UK or Ireland and two thirds of the UK’s offshore wind capacity to be installed between 2012-2018, was installed from this dedicated Terminal.

Belfast Harbour is planning to develop a further 46-acre site within the Harbour Estate, capable of supporting floating offshore wind development. The D3 site will include a 340m heavy duty quay, and will also be able to facilitate cruise and project cargo.

Supported by strong fabrication capabilities at H&W, and excellent construction sector supply chain capabilities, D3 will be excellently equipped to service offshore wind development in the Celtic Sea, Northern Ireland Territorial Waters and Scotwind Projects.

As we continue to deliver a pipeline of investment, Belfast Harbour is committed to working with our valued partners and customers to support the growth of the renewable energy sector and reach new milestones in the journey towards decarbonisation.
