Northern Ireland Maritime & Offshore (NIMO) is thrilled to announce it has been awarded £100,000 in funding through the UK Department for Transport Maritime Cluster Development Fund. The award was announced at the Maritime UK meeting by Maritime Minister, Mike Kane, as he welcomed the soon to be Maritime UK Chairman, Tom Boardley.

NIMO is made up of 55 companies and organisations who have come together and work collaboratively to deliver a shared vision to grow the Maritime and Offshore sectors in Northern Ireland. Through the network, members are driving local economic expansion and unlocking opportunities for growth in these sectors in the years ahead. This significant investment will support the cluster as it looks to realise this ambition.

The Department for Transport’s funding aims to support NIMO to transition from an emerging to a fully operational and self-supporting cluster.

“As a growing cluster, NIMO has already seen transformative benefits from being part of the wider network of regional clusters supported by Maritime UK and the Department for Transport”, said Kerry Muldoon, Manager of NIMO.

“This collaboration has opened doors to incredible opportunities for Northern Ireland. In April, we hosted a landmark launch event attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, Patron of Maritime UK, and in June, Belfast welcomed over 350 industry leaders for the prestigious Maritime UK Awards.

The MCDF funding drives further investment into Northern Ireland and other regions of the United Kingdom, supporting the future of these critical sectors as well as our coastal communities. The resultant expansion of NIMO is expected to create jobs and contribute to the growth of the maritime sector in the region. David Tyler, Co-Founder of Artemis Technologies commented on the funding, “As founding member, Artemis Technologies is delighted by this investment.”

“At the forefront of clean maritime innovation, we recognise the power of collaboration to achieve extraordinary goals. NIMO provides a unique platform to showcase Northern Ireland’s exceptional talent and expertise on a global scale.”
